HOW MUCH CBD SHOULD I TAKE?

HOW MUCH CBD SHOULD I TAKE?

How much CBD should I take?

One of the most common questions we get from new and seasoned CBD users is “How much CBD should I be taking?”. Unfortunately, there is no true formula that will tell you how much CBD you will need. Everyone's body reacts to nutrients differently and uptaking CBD is no different.

Let’s compare CBD to caffeine. Some people can drink cups of coffee and soda all day long without feeling jittery or anxious. Meanwhile, others can have one sip and begin to feel anxious, hyper, or jittery. If you are typically sensitive to things like caffeine, sugar, or other nutraceuticals, it is always best to start low and slow with your approach to CBD. People with higher levels of tolerance to supplements typically need higher doses of CBD.

With that said, we always recommend starting with a minimal dose and slowly working your way up until you find your optimal dose. The idea is maximum benefit with least amount of product!

What dose of CBD should I start with?

Although there is no one size fits all on CBD dosing, there are some general guidelines to follow when getting started. A “low dose” of CBD would be around ~8mg. That is about the minimum amount needed to activate your Endocannabinoid System. Eight milligrams of CBD would be the equivalent to half a dropper full of our 500mg tincture bottle. Some people will find this to be their optimal dose while others will need to slowly increase.

One popular starting suggestion is: 1 milligram per 10 pounds of body weight. However, there are no studies validating this equation, it stands to be a good starting point for just about everyone entering the world of CBD. The key to this suggestion is this: start low, and increase slowly until you find your “sweet spot”.

Where one person might find optimal results with a few drops, others need high concentrations. Some people use over 100mg per day to find the same level of relief as someone who takes 16 milligrams per day! The fluctuation is optimal doses from one person to another is why tinctures come in different strengths. Our Full Spectrum CBD Oil Tinctures come in 600mg and 1200mg strengths. No matter how much CBD you end up needing, we have a bottle to cover your needs. Our Broad Spectrum CBD Oil comes in 250mg, 500mg, and 1,000mg strength bottles. You can choose between natural and mint flavors!

CBD isn’t the only cannabinoid that requires special attention to dosing! When using any sort of Delta 8 THC, Delta 9 THC or Delta 10 THC cannabis products, it is imperative to use the low and slow method when finding your ideal dose. Delta 8 is a legal form of THC in most states and recently has become a very popular product being sold in retail stores as well as online. Unlike CBD, Delta 8 is intoxicating, meaning it can give you a “high” feeling. Delta 8 provides strong therapeutic values but needs to be used responsibly and with moderation.

With our Delta 8 Tinctures we recommend starting with .25ml and gradually increasing if needed to find your desired effect. These tinctures are a 1:1 ratio of CBD to Delta 8 making them high impact for therapeutic benefit!

Different Types of CBD

CBD comes in many different forms including:  tinctures, gummies, vapes, capsules & lotions to name a few. Deciding which product is best for you can get confusing. Understanding the different  types of CBD is also critical to ensure you get what you're looking for and nothing less! Products range from CBD isolate, CBD broad spectrum CBD, full spectrum CBD and other minor cannabinoid based products such as CBG, CBDa, CBN, Delta 8.

CBD is only one of over 120 cannabinoids found within the cannabis plant. Each of these cannabinoids is being studied for their unique therapeutic properties. Knowing the impact each individual cannabinoid can have is a rather daunting task. This is why “CBD” is used as a general term for most cannabinoid based products.

Side effects of taking too much CBD

It’s pretty rare to have side effects from CBD. Side effects typically occur when someone takes too much too fast. This is why we always recommend starting low and slow with your dose. Below is a list of the most common side effects experienced with consuming CBD.

  • Tiredness/Fatigue
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Changes in appetite
  • Dry Mouth
  • Low blood pressure

If you’re on any type of blood pressure medication, it is always best to consult with your doctor before taking CBD. Cannabinoids have shown to naturally lower your blood pressure. If a person is on a pharmaceutical medication for cholesterol or blood pressure, there can be negative interactions between these medications and CBD. Consider asking your doctor if lowering or weaning off your medication for a regular dose of CBD could be an alternative to the pharmaceuticals.

A good rule of thumb for individuals who take medications: if you’re not supposed to eat grapefruit when taking your medication, consult your doctor before using CBD products.

Other things to consider to ensure you do not have negative side effects from your CBD is to make sure you are buying a clean, trusted CBD or Delta 8 product. Not all CBD is created equal and it’s important to know what has been added to your CBD oil products.

  1. Make sure no artificial additives or cheap carrier oils have been used in manufacturing.
  2. Checking to see that the product has been verified by a 3rd party lab
  3. Ensuring the CBD used was grown organically and does not have residual heavy metals or chemicals from either the growing process or through extraction. Products containing these unwanted chemicals and heavy metals can be toxic and confused as a side effect from CBD when in fact, it's not the CBD but a harmful unregulated product.

The Food and Drug Administration has yet to set any guidelines surrounding manufacturing of cannabis related products. This lack of oversight allows fly by night companies to cut corners and offer inferior products taking advantage of people's health all in the name of quick profits.
